Hi
For years I longed for a home filled with style and drama.
Not the kind of drama that TLC would make a show about, but the kind of drama that took a little risk on my part to make a bold choice when decorating.
In many rooms, that very drama is the difference between a room that feels like it has style, personality and presence, and a room that feels risk-less, basic and routine.
You subscribe to these emails from me not because you think basic is bad (it's not!) but because you, like me, want your home to showcase your unique style.
Maybe, like me, you've decided that you want the most amount of style with the least amount of stuff.
One way we get more style is by adding some drama--and one way we can get that drama is by choosing larger scale, statement lighting to our homes
The internet let out a collective gasp when Amber posted this entryway. Yes, the scale of the room brings major, MAJOR drama, but this space would be only 1/10 as amazing without that dramatic, huge light fixture.
Even the table lamp is big and dramatic.
What bold choices!
But what about the rest of us mere mortals with only 8 foot ceilings?
Can we add drama with light fixtures too?
Years ago, if I felt like a room didn't have enough of my personal style, I though that meant I needed to buy more cute tchotchkes, pillows and throws from HomeGoods.
The truth was, I was afraid to make a bold choice and invest in a few large statement pieces.
For some reason I thought I was being a better steward of our money if I added 35 fifteen dollar small items to our room over time. Instead of spending that same money on one gorgeous statement light. Bonus: it stays with the house and adds resale value!
Even as a renter I finally learned this truth and if we were going to live in a rental for more than a year, we'd switch out lighting when we moved in (just in a few main rooms) and then switch them back when we moved out.
It was SO worth it to make a rental feel like home for me.
If your room feels like it's incomplete, needs an update or you just want a statement piece, consider adding a statement with your lighting. I've never regretted it, and as of yet, I've never bought a light that was too big, only too small.
When it comes to lighting, go big, then put it in your home.
Amen.
If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen my series on How I Shop for Furniture. It's saved to my highlights so you can watch it whenever you want. Or you can click here and watch it now. --Make sure your volume is up, I talk you through it all.
If You Have a Creative Business
Well, now she's offering that class ONLINE!
You do not have to get on a plane to take Jeanne's class anymore!
She's a fantastic teacher because like me, she's an Enneagram 5 (not that I'm biased or anything, but we like to teach information in an organized fashion--it's life giving for people like us!).
Alrighty,
that's all for this week
