Hi
Here in North Carolina it's almost Yard Sale Season and if you are in need of some case goods (bookshelves, dressers, tables--basically any surface or storage piece) then yard sales might be your new BFF.
I found that white table above TEN years ago, for just $15 at a yard sale. Click here to read the post from 10 years ago. I'm still using this table today, in 2020, what a great find! The day I found it, we probably went to over 20 sales, lucky for us, it was yard sale weekend for an entire
neighboorhood which meant the odds were in our favor.
In general, I like to invest in higher end, brand new or custom upholstered pieces (especially when it comes to primary seating and my bed). But I'm always on the look out for second-hand case goods because they add much needed soul and character to a room.
Although you can save a huge HUGE amount of money buying from yard sales, I want to be very clear that you will be investing something else that's even more valuable than cash:: TIME. And possibly your sanity.
The price you pay for finding the deal of a lifetime at a yard sale is the willingness to go to 23 yard sales held by the most tasteless humans who are only selling happy meal toys for a dollar each, old strollers and broken sets of vertical blinds. This is how you earn the right to find that one amazing piece that you'll show off for the rest of your life.
It's not for everyone.

Of course, you can find all sorts of things beyond case goods at yard sales--tchotchkes abound, kitchen crocks, wooden spoons, blue and white dishes, cool lamps, unique artwork. But for me, the best finds are those case goods that cost a few dollars and serve you for years and years.
If you find a great deal at a yard sale this spring, let me know, send me photo via email or tag me @thenester on Instagram, I want to celebrate with you!
