When I start to question my simple fall decor, I remember these three guidelines
1.Let your home decor and fall-itizing
evolve over time during the fall season.
It's okay if your home doesn't magically turn from summer into fall in a three hour time span on a September Saturday. Actually, that's exactly what happens in nature. You're doing a great job!
2. Let heaven and nature sing is my motto when decorating for the
seasons. I turn to nature first for branches of whatever is in bloom or changing color. That arrangement in the photo above has a few purple grocery store flowers--the rest are weeds and vines I found around the house.
3.One big is better than 12, 28 or 43 smalls.
Listen. I've seen those front porches on Instagram with
47 pumpkins on them running down the stairs and I love them too. But that's not the only way to get a beautiful look. Even when it comes to decorating with pumpkins.
I'm not a pumpkin hater, I'm a pumpkin LOVER but, I've learned I can get just as much, if not more impact with one beautiful, statement pumpkin instead of relying on 1.5 million small pumpkins. And it's less stuff to deal with and buy and set around.
Amen.
Creating a home that feels like fall is about so much more than decor. If we do it right it actually takes the pressure off getting the decor just right when we include all the senses--not just the sense of sight.
