Oh Hiiii
If August is the Sunday of Summer then September is the Monday of Fall.
Autumn officially begins tomorrow and if you are like me, you're ready to slowly start adding layers of coziness to your home. It's my absolute favorite time of year to decorate! Cue the weeds I can't wait to pick!
It's important to me for my home to feel like the current season,
and I'm guessing that's important to you too.
I'm so glad that doesn't mean we need a bunch of plastic seasonal decor that has to be packed away in bins. There's nothing wrong with that, I've just learned through the years that there's an easier way. And surprise, I actually like how the easier way looks.
This year,
before you start adding some cozy to your home, walk through each room and see if you can subtract a layer of summer.
At our house we've got some summer remnants hanging around that I'm slowing putting up. I'm moving the the flip flops from the boot tray to the closet, culling those summer magazines and clearing the mantle back to the bare bones so it's ready to get autumn-zied. One of my favorite things to do is
to grab a rag, and run it under steaming hot water, find some counter spray (bonus points if it smells like fall) and wipe down the mantle and the main surfaces in our family room. It's like a spa day for your surfaces.
My favorite ways to usher in autumn are simple and practically free: burning candles and diffusing essential oils, layering textured throws on the sofa, cutting tall flowering weeds from the woods behind our house
and bringing them in, listening to banjo music, and opening the doors and windows. I found some unique pumpkins and gourds at our local country grocery stores I'll keep those around through Thanksgiving.
