Well Hi
I feel like we haven't chatted FOREVER. I miss you!
A few weeks ago Chad found a teeny tiny kitten in the middle of the road. He brought it home and it's been precious. But, I already have my two cats trained to use the litter box in the basement or go outside. Even though this kitten used his new tiny litter box on the back porch without fail, one day, I forgot and left the door to the porch shut the entire
day. Poor kitty had no litter box access, and I was gifted with kitten pee pees all over my rug and even on the bottom edges of my drapes.
So I removed all the drapes and washed them and took my jute rug out and hung it over the porch to see if I can spray it off with the hose and wash it that way.
Meanwhile, Chad and the boys all commented on our rug-less, drape-less
family room. They loved it. "Why don't we keep it like this?" Cue the annoyed mom. The problem is, I kind of love it too.
I think we all crave more of LESS but we don't always realize it.
I'm going to put the drapes back because when drapes are hung correctly (see how my rods are high and wide?) they actually make a room look bigger and enhance the view out the windows. Since our drapes our white, they even brighten up our room!
But, I think
we're gonna go rug-less for the summer. I know I'll crave that coziness in the fall, but it's a nice change at this time of year to usher in our Summer Home.
From time to time we rent out our barn to a company who locates properties for photo shoots for commercials and print ads. So far we've had three different companies out here--a flooring company and two furniture companies-- and I've yet to see any of the final product out in the wild. Partly because they bring in so much
stuff--HUGE truckloads (fake walls! chandeliers!) that I wouldn't even recognize it if I saw it.
The flooring company wanted to photograph the inside of our house too, they decided to do a partial photo-shop job so they wouldn't have to go to the trouble of putting down all new floors temporarily over our existing floors (something they actually considered!).
A few
weeks ago a reader sent that image up there to me from an advertisement--on the left is our kitchen with photo-shopped floors, the right is our kitchen with dirty, needing to be refinished pine floors. Isn't that fun? Although I probably wouldn't choose the floors on the left, I immediately noticed how the darker/brown floors brought out the dark wood on the black chairs and in the chandelier. It's so calming.
Also, now that I see it
again, I miss that white plate wall back there.
We're doing it again!! I am SO excited that we get to host the second annual Nest Fest here on our property outside Charlotte, NC. To find out what in the world a Nest Fest is and for Vendor info (we've got a June 15th deadline) click here.
When I find something I love, I buy it in every color. A few years ago Target started selling this "cardigan" whatever it is. I bought it, wore it all the time and since then, I've bought FOUR more (lost two
because I am a toddler, hate me) and I wear them constantly. They are cool enough to wear in the summer, I keep one around to throw over a tank if I need to work in a cold coffee shop, but I also slip them on over long sleeves in the winter. This cream color is my favorite so far.
I'm in LOVE with this sign by House of Belonging--and especially the words: "If you want to bring happiness to the whole world, go home and love your family." --Mother Teresa
